Job Description

Are you eager to kickstart your career in the trades and gain valuable hands-on experience? Swinerton is seeking a motivated and flexible Handyman Offsider to join our team in San Francisco. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals who are keen to learn new skills, work alongside experienced professionals, and contribute to diverse construction and maintenance projects. You will play a crucial role in supporting our skilled tradespeople while developing a foundational understanding of various trades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist skilled tradespeople (carpenters, electricians, plumbers, etc.) with various tasks on job sites.
  • Prepare work sites by cleaning, organizing tools, and gathering necessary materials.
  • Perform general labor duties such as lifting, carrying, and moving equipment and supplies safely.
  • Learn and apply basic trade skills under direct supervision and mentorship.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, strictly adhering to all company safety protocols and procedures.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools safely after receiving proper instruction and training.
  • Support site logistics, including material management and waste disposal.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks as directed.

Required Skills

  • Strong willingness to learn and accept guidance.
  • Reliable and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and bending.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety principles.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid California Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Prior experience in a manual labor, construction, or maintenance role (even informal experience).
  • Basic knowledge of common hand tools and their uses.
