Job Description

Join our dedicated team at The British Library as a Historical Document Tagger for our exciting Digital Archive Project. This entry-level position is crucial for enhancing the accessibility and searchability of our vast historical collections. You will play a vital role in accurately tagging and categorizing digital images of historical documents, contributing directly to the preservation and public access of national treasures. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a keen interest in history, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately tag and categorize digital images of historical documents based on established guidelines and taxonomies.
  • Perform quality control checks on tagged data to ensure consistency and precision.
  • Input metadata associated with historical documents into our digital archiving system.
  • Identify and escalate any anomalies or complex tagging challenges to senior team members.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of tagging guidelines and processes.
  • Collaborate with archivists and digital specialists to ensure accurate representation of historical context.
  • Adhere to strict data privacy and security protocols when handling sensitive information.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including experience with data entry and digital interfaces.
  • A genuine interest in history, archives, or cultural heritage.
