Job Description
Join Alberta Health Services as a Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse, where you will provide compassionate, high-quality care to patients and their families navigating end-of-life journeys. Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for palliative and hospice patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Monitor and manage patient symptoms, reporting changes to the interdisciplinary team.
- Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
- Educate patients and families on disease progression, treatment options, and comfort measures.
- Collaborate with physicians, social workers, spiritual care providers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Participate in care conferences and contribute to care planning.
- Advocate for patient wishes and ensure a dignified end-of-life experience.
- Adhere to all provincial and organizational policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alberta or eligibility for registration.
- Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in hospice, palliative care, oncology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of pain and symptom management in palliative care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Hospice and Palliative Care Nursing (CHPN or equivalent).
- Experience with international patient care standards and diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Additional language proficiency.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Previous experience in a Canadian healthcare setting.
