Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Hospital Pharmacy Technician for a clinical role with a night shift differential at our Antioch Medical Center. In this crucial position, you will work closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of pharmaceutical care to our patients during overnight hours. This role requires precision, strong clinical understanding, and a commitment to patient safety in a fast-paced hospital environment. You will be instrumental in medication preparation, dispensing, inventory management, and supporting various clinical pharmacy services.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispense medications, including oral, IV, and unit dose forms, accurately and according to physician orders.
- Maintain precise inventory control of medications, including controlled substances, and assist with ordering and stocking procedures.
- Assist pharmacists in medication reconciliation, drug information retrieval, and patient profile management.
- Adhere strictly to all state and federal regulations, hospital policies, and safety standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to nurses, physicians, and other medical staff regarding medication inquiries and availability.
- Perform routine pharmacy duties, including medication cart fills, automated dispensing cabinet (ADC) management, and sterile compounding.
- Identify and report potential medication errors or discrepancies to the supervising pharmacist.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Manage urgent and emergency medication requests during the night shift, ensuring timely delivery.
Required Skills
- Current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
- Active California Pharmacy Technician license in good standing.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in an acute care hospital setting.
- Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations and medication preparation techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and independently during night shifts.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IV compounding and sterile product preparation.
- Familiarity with automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell).
- Previous experience in a clinical pharmacy support role or specialized area.
- Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
