Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Digital Archivist to join our team for a paid student internship. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in library science, information management, history, or related fields to gain practical experience in digital archiving processes. The intern will assist with the digitization, preservation, and organization of various digital assets, contributing to the long-term accessibility of our valuable collections. This role provides hands-on experience with archival best practices, metadata creation, and digital asset management systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the digitization of physical materials (documents, photographs, audio/visual) into digital formats.
- Create, manage, and verify metadata for digital objects according to established standards.
- Perform quality control checks on digitized materials and metadata.
- Organize and reformat digital files for long-term preservation and access.
- Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of digital asset management systems.
- Conduct basic research to support archival descriptions and contextual information.
- Participate in special projects related to digital collections as assigned.
Required Skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Library Science, Information Science, History, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- Familiarity with digital imaging software or archival descriptive standards (e.g., DACS, EAD).
- Basic understanding of digital preservation principles.
- Experience with content management systems or databases.
