Job Description
Are you an enthusiastic, responsible, and caring individual looking for an incredible cultural exchange experience? Our host family in Reading, Berkshire, is searching for a live-in au pair to become a valued member of their household. This is a fantastic opportunity for an international student or young person eager to immerse themselves in British culture, improve their English, and gain valuable childcare experience. You will provide essential support with childcare and light household duties while receiving free room and board, pocket money, and the chance to explore the UK. The family has two wonderful children, aged 5 and 8, who are looking forward to welcoming you into their home. We offer a supportive and friendly environment where you can grow, learn, and create lasting memories.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide attentive and engaging childcare for two children, aged 5 and 8.
- Assist with morning routines, including getting children ready for school.
- Take children to and from school/activities (local walking distance or public transport).
- Organize and participate in age-appropriate play, educational activities, and outings.
- Prepare simple, healthy meals and snacks for the children.
- Help with light household tasks related to the children, such as tidying play areas and children's laundry.
- Ensure the children's safety and well-being at all times.
- Encourage children's development through creative and interactive play.
- Maintain open and regular communication with the host parents regarding the children's activities and needs.
Required Skills
- Genuine love for children and previous experience working with them (babysitting, volunteering, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills in English (conversational level required).
- Responsible, reliable, and trustworthy.
- Energetic, patient, and adaptable.
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 6-12 months.
- Non-smoker.
- Valid driver's license (preferred, but not essential).
- Ability to pass a background check and provide references.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with children in a structured setting (e.g., nursery, school, camp).
- First Aid certification.
- Formal childcare qualifications.
- Interest in British culture and willingness to participate in family life.
