Job Description
This role involves overseeing and ensuring compliance with environmental mitigation plans, particularly those related to coastal development and sensitive ecosystems. The Mitigation Monitor will be responsible for field inspections, data collection, and report generation to ensure adherence to strict regulatory requirements and project specifications in the Pacific Coast region, with operations based out of our Austin office for reporting and coordination. This position requires frequent travel to project sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular on-site inspections of mitigation areas to ensure compliance with approved plans and permits.
- Monitor sensitive resources (e.g., wetlands, habitats, water quality) during construction and post-construction phases.
- Collect field data, photographic documentation, and prepare detailed compliance reports.
- Identify potential non-compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Liaise with project managers, environmental specialists, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Review and interpret environmental permits, mitigation plans, and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in site meetings and provide technical input on mitigation effectiveness.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in environmental monitoring or compliance (minimum 3 years).
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, CEQA/NEPA).
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, habitat restoration designs, and mitigation plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with GPS, GIS, and environmental data collection software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently to project sites along the Pacific Coast.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Hydrology, or a related field.
- Experience with coastal or marine environments.
- OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour certification.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
