Job Description

Join our dynamic team as a Paleontology Associate and contribute to cutting-edge research and collections management. This role involves assisting senior paleontologists in field excavations, laboratory preparation, and the documentation of fossil specimens. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational knowledge of paleontology, excellent organizational skills, and a passion for scientific discovery. A sign-on bonus will be provided to qualified hires who meet specific experience and skill criteria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in paleontological field expeditions, including excavation, collection, and initial stabilization of fossil specimens.
  • Prepare, clean, and conserve fossil materials in the laboratory using various tools and techniques.
  • Maintain meticulous records of specimens, including photographic documentation, cataloging, and database entry.
  • Contribute to research projects by conducting literature reviews and analyzing fossil data.
  • Assist with the organization and curation of fossil collections within the museum or departmental repositories.
  • Operate and maintain specialized paleontological equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and ethical guidelines in field and laboratory work.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Paleontology, Biology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in fossil preparation and conservation techniques.
  • Proficiency in scientific data recording and database management.
  • Ability to work effectively in both laboratory and remote field conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for field work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Paleontology or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with GIS software for mapping fossil localities.
  • Familiarity with 3D scanning and modeling of fossil specimens.
  • Previous experience working in a museum or university research setting.
  • Certification in Wilderness First Aid or similar field safety training.
