Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Part-time Stagehand with a focus on weekend entertainment and night work. This crucial role supports the technical aspects of live productions at the Downey Theatre, ensuring seamless execution of lighting, sound, rigging, and stage operations. You will be an integral part of our production team, contributing to the magic of live performance. Ideal candidates will have a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and the physical stamina required for various stage tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the load-in and load-out of equipment for performances and events.
  • Operate and maintain theatrical lighting, sound, and rigging equipment as directed.
  • Perform stage setups and changeovers efficiently and safely during performances.
  • Provide technical support to touring productions and local artists.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and procedures for stage operations.
  • Assist with general maintenance and repair of stage equipment and facilities.
  • Collaborate effectively with the production manager, technical director, and fellow crew members.
  • Attend pre-show meetings and post-show debriefs as required.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of theatrical stage operations.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs), climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, often late into the night.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all venue policies.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and a proactive approach to tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a theatre, concert venue, or live event setting.
  • Familiarity with theatrical lighting consoles, soundboards, or rigging systems.
  • Experience with basic hand and power tools.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
