Job Description
Are you passionate about photography and eager to learn the technical craft of studio lighting? Henry’s Camera in Sydney is seeking a motivated and flexible Photography Studio Lighting Assistant to join our dynamic team. This entry-level position is perfect for someone looking to start their career in professional photography, offering hands-on training and mentorship from experienced photographers. You will gain invaluable experience in setting up, adjusting, and maintaining studio lighting equipment for various photographic projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead photographers with the setup and breakdown of studio lighting equipment, including strobes, continuous lights, modifiers (softboxes, umbrellas, reflectors), and stands.
- Learn and apply various lighting techniques under direct supervision to achieve desired photographic effects.
- Prepare the studio space before shoots, ensuring all equipment is clean, charged, and in working order.
- Organize and maintain lighting equipment inventory, reporting any damages or missing items.
- Provide general assistance during photo shoots, including moving props, adjusting backdrops, and ensuring subject comfort.
- Shadow and observe experienced photographers to understand the flow of a professional studio session.
- Assist with basic post-production tasks as needed, such as file organization.
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Required Skills
- Strong interest and passion for photography or visual arts.
- Eagerness and willingness to learn new technical skills rapidly.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of camera functions is a plus, but not required.
- Physical ability to lift and move photography equipment (up to 25 lbs).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in or completion of a photography-related course or program.
- Prior experience in a customer service or retail environment.
- Familiarity with various camera brands and photography accessories.
- A personal photography portfolio showcasing basic skills.
