Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Think Tank Archivist with a strong focus on historical records to join our vibrant research community. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive management, preservation, and accessibility of vital historical documents and data generated by our various research initiatives and associated think tanks. The Archivist will ensure the integrity and longevity of our historical intellectual assets, supporting groundbreaking research and educational endeavors. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement archival policies and procedures for historical records specific to think tank outputs.
  • Process, arrange, and describe archival collections, including cataloging, indexing, and creating finding aids.
  • Preserve historical materials through appropriate conservation and rehousing techniques, ensuring long-term accessibility.
  • Manage digital and physical historical archives, ensuring proper metadata, version control, and secure storage.
  • Provide expert reference services for researchers, faculty, and students accessing historical records.
  • Collaborate with research teams and think tank members to identify, appraise, and acquire historically significant materials.
  • Conduct outreach and educational programs to promote the use and understanding of historical archives.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright, privacy, intellectual property, and access regulations for all archival materials.
  • Supervise junior archival staff, interns, or volunteers, providing mentorship and guidance.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Library Science (MLS), Archival Studies, or a related field from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional archival experience, preferably in a research, academic, or think tank setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with archival processing, preservation techniques, and providing access to historical collections.
  • Proficiency with archival content management systems (e.g., ArchivesSpace, AtoM) and descriptive standards (e.g., DACS, EAD).
  • Strong knowledge of historical research methodologies and primary source analysis.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with digital forensics and implementing digital preservation strategies for historical records.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and project management for archival initiatives.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property rights and ethical considerations specific to archival practice in a research context.
  • Prior experience working directly within a think tank or policy research environment.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to historical research collections.
