Job Description

Are you meticulously detail-oriented and passionate about ensuring the highest quality in beauty products? Shoppers Drug Mart is seeking a dedicated Quality Control Inspector to join our operations team in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. In this vital role, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of all incoming beauty products, ensuring they meet our stringent quality standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations before they reach our shelves. This position requires an eagle eye for detail, a strong commitment to excellence, and the ability to work collaboratively to uphold the integrity of our beauty offerings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough visual and physical inspections of incoming beauty products, including cosmetics, skincare, fragrances, and hair care, for defects, damage, and compliance with specifications.
  • Verify product labeling, packaging, and expiry dates against established standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform routine sampling and basic testing of products to assess quality attributes such as texture, scent, color, and functionality.
  • Document inspection results accurately, including the identification of non-conformities and recommended corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with procurement, inventory, and store teams to address quality issues and implement preventive measures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized inspection area, adhering to all safety and sanitation protocols.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of quality control processes and standards.
  • Generate comprehensive reports on quality trends, common issues, and resolution statuses.
  • Ensure all beauty products comply with Health Canada regulations and internal quality benchmarks.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (2+ years) in quality control or assurance, preferably within the beauty, cosmetic, or retail industry.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Ability to identify subtle defects and discrepancies.
  • Proficiency in using basic inspection tools and techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with basic quality control methodologies and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in a relevant field such as Chemistry, Cosmetology, Quality Management, or a related science discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health Canada regulations pertaining to cosmetic and beauty products.
  • Experience with inventory management systems and quality management software.
  • Previous experience working in a retail distribution center or warehouse environment.
