Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and organized Remote Patient Appointment Scheduler to join our dynamic healthcare call center team. In this 100% remote role, you will be the first point of contact for patients seeking medical appointments, providing essential support and ensuring efficient scheduling for various clinics and departments. You will utilize your excellent communication skills and attention to detail to manage appointment calendars, answer patient inquiries, and maintain accurate records, all from the comfort of your home office. This position is crucial in facilitating access to care and enhancing the patient experience within the Interior Health Authority.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments accurately and efficiently using designated scheduling software.
  • Answer incoming calls from patients, providing clear and concise information regarding appointments, services, and general inquiries.
  • Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and appointment details, updating records as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare providers and other staff to coordinate complex scheduling needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information in compliance with all privacy regulations (e.g., PHIPA, FIPPA).
  • Provide empathetic and professional customer service to all patients, addressing concerns and de-escalating difficult situations.
  • Follow established protocols and procedures for appointment management and call handling.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support the call center operations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a call center, customer service, or administrative role, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in using scheduling software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Reliable internet connection and a quiet, dedicated home workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in medical office administration or a related field.
  • Experience with Interior Health Authority systems or similar large healthcare organizations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Bilingualism (English and other languages relevant to the local population).
