Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and hardworking Seasonal Fruit Pickers to join our orchard teams in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, with a primary focus in the Kelowna area. This role is crucial to our harvesting operations, ensuring that our premium quality fruits are picked with care and precision during the peak season. You will work outdoors in a dynamic and supportive environment, contributing directly to the success of our local agricultural industry. This is a physically demanding yet rewarding position for individuals who enjoy working with nature and being part of a close-knit team.
Key Responsibilities
- Carefully pick a variety of tree fruits (e.g., apples, cherries, peaches) according to quality standards and ripeness guidelines.
- Handle fruit gently to prevent bruising or damage during picking and placement into bins or containers.
- Operate and maintain picking ladders, platforms, and other orchard equipment safely and efficiently.
- Sort and pack fruit as instructed, ensuring quality control and adherence to packing specifications.
- Monitor fruit quality and report any issues or abnormalities to the team leader or supervisor.
- Follow all company safety protocols and procedures while working in the orchard.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area within the orchard.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to meet daily picking targets.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to perform repetitive tasks, including bending, lifting, and reaching, for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (sun, heat, rain).
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of English for safety instructions and team communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in fruit picking, orchard work, or general agricultural labour.
- Knowledge of different fruit varieties and their picking requirements.
- First Aid certification is an asset.
