Job Description

We are seeking an innovative and highly skilled Senior Materials Chemist to join our Prototype Development team in Lubbock, TX. This critical role involves leading the research, development, and optimization of novel materials for advanced applications. The successful candidate will be instrumental in transforming cutting-edge scientific concepts into tangible prototypes, driving forward our next generation of products. This position requires a deep understanding of materials chemistry, hands-on experience in laboratory and pilot-scale environments, and a passion for problem-solving and innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, synthesis, and characterization of new materials and formulations for advanced prototype development.
  • Develop and execute experimental plans, analyze data, and interpret results to guide material optimization.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and product development teams to ensure seamless integration of new materials.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies, raw materials, and processing techniques to enhance material performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough failure analysis and root cause investigations for material-related issues in prototypes.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and patent applications.
  • Mentor junior chemists and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Ensure all work adheres to strict safety guidelines and quality standards.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 6 years of industry experience in materials R&D, with a focus on prototype development.
  • Expertise in polymer chemistry, inorganic materials, or composite materials.
  • Proficiency in a range of materials characterization techniques (e.g., FTIR, SEM, TEM, XRD, DSC, TGA, DMA).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage timelines, and achieve technical objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral experience in relevant materials research.
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE) methodologies.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property processes and patent landscaping.
  • Experience in scaling up laboratory processes to pilot or manufacturing scale.
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and green chemistry principles.
