Job Description
Are you an aspiring set designer or art director with a passion for bringing creative visions to life for commercial advertising? Saatchi & Saatchi is seeking a highly enthusiastic and dedicated Set Design & Art Direction Intern to join our dynamic production team in Watford. This is an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fast-paced world of commercial production, working alongside industry professionals on exciting and high-profile projects. You will contribute to the visual storytelling and aesthetic of our advertising campaigns, from concept to execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior set designers and art directors in developing creative concepts and visual proposals for commercials.
- Conduct research for set elements, props, locations, and styling inspiration.
- Create mood boards, sketches, and visual presentations to communicate design ideas.
- Support the procurement and management of props, materials, and set dressings.
- Assist on-set with set construction, dressing, and styling during shoot days.
- Collaborate with directors, producers, and other crew members to ensure artistic vision is achieved.
- Maintain an organized and efficient studio and prop storage area.
- Contribute fresh ideas and creative solutions to design challenges.
Required Skills
- Strong portfolio demonstrating an understanding of set design, art direction, or related visual arts.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., SketchUp, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Basic understanding of film/commercial production processes.
- Problem-solving aptitude and a proactive approach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Set Design, Production Design, Fine Arts, Architecture, or a related field.
- Previous experience (academic projects, volunteer work) in a production or creative studio setting.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and materials.
- Full clean UK driving license.
