Job Description
Join Thatchers Cider as a Somerset Cider Apple Picker for our upcoming harvest season! This temporary, on-site role is crucial to bringing in the best of our West Country apples, destined for our award-winning ciders. While this specific posting and recruitment process are managed from our Coventry base, the actual work will take place in our beautiful orchards across Somerset and other West Country locations. You’ll be part of a dedicated team, working outdoors in picturesque settings, contributing directly to the tradition and quality that Thatchers Cider is known for. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals seeking seasonal work, a connection to nature, and a chance to experience the agricultural side of food and drink production. Full training will be provided, making it perfect for those with no prior experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Hand-picking cider apples from trees and off the ground, adhering to quality guidelines.
- Operating basic harvesting equipment safely, after receiving comprehensive training.
- Sorting and packing apples into designated containers, ensuring proper handling.
- Maintaining a clean and organized work area within the orchard.
- Adhering strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Working effectively and cooperatively as part of a team to meet daily harvest targets.
- Reporting any issues, concerns, or equipment malfunctions to the orchard supervisor promptly.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including bending, lifting (up to 15kg), and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions (rain or shine).
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliability.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure the highest quality of harvested apples.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work collaboratively as part of a team.
- A positive attitude, self-motivation, and a willingness to learn new skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in agricultural work, fruit picking, or similar outdoor manual labour.
