Job Description

Are you ready to embark on a rewarding career as a professional truck driver? Our Student Driver Program is designed for individuals with little to no prior driving experience who are eager to learn and earn. This comprehensive program provides you with the essential skills, knowledge, and certifications needed to become a safe and successful CDL A driver. You’ll receive structured training, mentorship, and a weekly stipend as you progress towards your Commercial Driver’s License. Upon successful completion, you’ll transition into a full-time driving role with Schneider, enjoying competitive pay, excellent benefits, and ample opportunities for career growth. This is an on-site training program at our Fort Wayne facility, preparing you for a fulfilling career on the road.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all classroom instruction, driving simulations, and on-the-road training sessions.
  • Learn and adhere to all federal, state, and company safety regulations and procedures.
  • Practice pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles.
  • Develop proficiency in vehicle control, maneuvering, and backing techniques.
  • Understand and apply proper load securement procedures.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation as required.
  • Collaborate effectively with instructors and fellow students.
  • Pass all required exams and road tests for CDL A certification.

Required Skills

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen
  • Willingness to undergo a background check
  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance
  • Eagerness to learn and a positive attitude
  • Basic communication and comprehension skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in a physically demanding role
  • Familiarity with basic vehicle maintenance concepts
  • Mechanical aptitude
