Job Description

Are you a student with a passion for plants and gardening? Armstrong Garden Centers in Irvine is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Student Nursery Hand to join our team. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a vibrant nursery environment. You will support our garden center operations by assisting with plant care, maintaining displays, and providing basic customer support, all while learning from experienced horticulturalists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Watering and fertilizing plants according to established schedules and guidelines.
  • Assisting with the unloading, stocking, and organizing of new plant shipments.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of plant displays and sales areas.
  • Helping customers locate specific plants and gardening products.
  • Pruning, trimming, and repotting plants as needed to ensure health and aesthetic appeal.
  • Assisting with pest and disease identification and basic treatment applications.
  • Ensuring all tools and equipment are properly cleaned and stored after use.
  • Supporting senior nursery staff with various tasks to maintain a thriving nursery environment.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong interest in plants, gardening, or horticulture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be currently enrolled as a student.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with plants or in a garden setting (even personal gardening hobbies).
  • Basic knowledge of common plant names and care requirements.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and some holidays.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
