Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and organized Thrift / Charity Shop Sorting Assistant to join our backroom team in Rockford. This flexible part-time role is crucial for our operations, ensuring that donated items are processed efficiently and effectively. You will be responsible for receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing a wide variety of donations for the sales floor. Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and unload incoming donations from donors and delivery vehicles.
  • Efficiently sort donations into designated categories (e.g., clothing, housewares, electronics, books).
  • Inspect items for quality, damage, and cleanliness, adhering to donation acceptance guidelines.
  • Identify and separate items for recycling, salvage, or disposal.
  • Tag and price items accurately based on established pricing policies and market value.
  • Organize and move processed items to the sales floor or storage areas.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the backroom.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow and efficient processing.
  • Assist with special projects or tasks as needed to support store operations.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs regularly and stand for extended periods.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of item categorization and quality assessment.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a retail, warehouse, or sorting environment.
