Job Description
Are you looking for a physically engaging weekend role that offers a great workout and the satisfaction of seeing tangible results? Creative Landscapes Sussex is seeking a motivated Turf Layer Assistant to join our dedicated team on a part-time basis. This role is perfect for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, are physically fit, and eager to learn the craft of professional turf installation. You’ll be an essential part of our team, helping to prepare sites, lay turf, and ensure our projects are completed to the highest standards. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of ground for turf laying, including clearing debris, leveling soil, and applying topsoil as directed.
- Handle and transport heavy rolls of turf from delivery points to installation areas efficiently and safely.
- Precisely lay turf, ensuring proper alignment, tight seams, and a smooth, professional finish.
- Operate basic landscaping tools and equipment safely and effectively under supervision.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment, including tidying up tools and materials at the end of each shift.
- Follow instructions from the lead landscaper or foreman diligently to ensure project specifications are met.
- Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed on site to maintain a safe working environment.
Required Skills
- Excellent physical fitness and stamina, with the ability to lift and carry heavy objects (e.g., turf rolls) repeatedly.
- Reliable and punctual, with consistent availability for scheduled weekend shifts.
- Strong work ethic and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
- Willingness to learn new landscaping skills and adapt to various tasks.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in manual labour, construction, or landscaping is a plus, but not essential as full training will be provided.
- A basic understanding of gardening or grounds maintenance principles.
- Full UK driving license (advantageous for commuting to different project sites, but not mandatory).
