Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Food Chemist with a strong focus on nutritional analysis to join our R&D team in Thornton, CO. The successful candidate will be instrumental in conducting detailed chemical and nutritional analysis of food products and raw materials, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal quality specifications. This role requires meticulous laboratory work, data interpretation, method development, and a commitment to accuracy and scientific integrity. You will contribute directly to product development, quality assurance, and consumer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate chemical and nutritional analysis on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished food products using established and novel analytical methods.
- Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment, including but not limited to HPLC, GC, spectrophotometers, and other specialized analytical instruments.
- Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for nutrient content, contaminants, and other critical food components.
- Interpret complex analytical data, prepare comprehensive reports, and present findings to cross-functional teams.
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with internal quality systems (e.g., ISO 17025, GMP) and relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA).
- Conduct stability studies and shelf-life assessments based on chemical and nutritional parameters.
- Collaborate with R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production teams to address product challenges and support innovation.
- Maintain precise and thorough laboratory records and documentation.
- Participate in laboratory audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a food chemistry laboratory, with a focus on nutritional analysis.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC, UV-Vis spectrophotometry).
- Strong understanding of food composition, nutrient analysis methodologies, and regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA) for food labeling.
- Excellent data analysis skills and experience with statistical software.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
- Familiarity with method validation protocols and quality control principles.
- Prior experience in product development or process improvement within the food industry.
