Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Recovery Specialist to join our elite team. This expert-level position demands exceptional technical proficiency, critical thinking under pressure, and an unwavering commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the complex and challenging field of heavy-duty vehicle recovery, capable of handling a wide range of incidents involving commercial trucks, buses, and heavy equipment. You will be responsible for executing intricate recovery operations, often in challenging environments and weather conditions, utilizing specialized equipment and advanced rigging techniques. This role is for a proven leader in the field, ready to take on the most demanding recovery scenarios with precision and expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute complex heavy-duty vehicle recovery operations, including rollovers, submerged vehicles, and off-road incidents.
  • Operate and maintain a diverse fleet of heavy-duty recovery vehicles and specialized equipment (e.g., rotators, heavy wreckers, air cushions).
  • Assess accident scenes and develop safe, efficient, and effective recovery plans.
  • Perform advanced rigging and winching techniques to secure and extract damaged vehicles.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of recovery equipment and vehicles.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior recovery technicians.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, law enforcement, customers, and other emergency personnel.
  • Complete detailed incident reports and documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, representing Rush Truck Centers with integrity.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in heavy-duty vehicle recovery.
  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • In-depth knowledge of heavy-duty truck mechanics and vehicle systems.
  • Proven expertise in advanced rigging, winching, and air cushion recovery techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Exceptional safety record and a commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to operate heavy recovery equipment (rotators, heavy wreckers, etc.) proficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • TRAA (Towing & Recovery Association of America) or similar industry certifications (e.g., WreckMaster, Miller Industries, etc.).
  • ASE certifications in relevant heavy-duty vehicle areas.
  • Experience with specialized heavy equipment recovery.
  • Formal training in incident management or scene command.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software for heavy trucks.
