Job Description

As a Senior Pharmacy Technician – Team Lead, Professional Benefits at Optum, you will play a crucial role in leading a team responsible for processing and managing professional pharmacy benefit claims and inquiries. This position requires a deep understanding of pharmacy benefits, strong leadership capabilities, and excellent problem-solving skills. You will ensure the team meets performance targets, adheres to compliance standards, and provides exceptional service to our members and providers. This is an opportunity to mentor, guide, and develop a team while contributing to the efficient operation of our pharmacy benefits programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and train a team of Pharmacy Technicians in the professional benefits department.
  • Oversee the daily operations, workflow, and performance of the team, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for complex pharmacy benefit inquiries, claim resolutions, and policy interpretations.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance checks on team's work and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist in developing and implementing training materials, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve escalated issues and improve overall process efficiency.
  • Manage team schedules, time-off requests, and performance reviews.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all regulatory guidelines, company policies, and HIPAA requirements.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives to enhance pharmacy benefit operations.

Required Skills

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or NHA.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmacy benefit management (PBM) processes, claim adjudication, and healthcare regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with professional benefits claims processing specifically.
  • Knowledge of various pharmacy software systems and databases.
  • Six Sigma or Lean methodology certification.
