Job Description
Exact Sciences is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to lead our scientific strategy and R&D initiatives. The CSO will be a critical member of the executive leadership team, responsible for steering our scientific direction, fostering a culture of innovation, and translating cutting-edge research into tangible diagnostic solutions. This role is ideal for a seasoned scientific leader with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, deep expertise in biotechnology or medical diagnostics, and a proven track record of driving scientific advancements from concept to commercialization within a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Equity participation is a significant component of this executive compensation package.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the long-term scientific vision and strategy for the company, aligning with overall business objectives.
- Lead and mentor a diverse team of scientists, researchers, and engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative R&D environment.
- Oversee all scientific research and development activities, from early-stage discovery to clinical validation.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies, research partnerships, and strategic scientific opportunities.
- Ensure the scientific integrity, quality, and regulatory compliance of all research activities and data.
- Represent the company's scientific endeavors to key stakeholders, investors, scientific communities, and regulatory bodies.
- Drive the publication strategy for scientific findings and intellectual property development.
- Manage the R&D budget and resources effectively to achieve scientific milestones.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in scientific research and development within the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical diagnostics industry.
- Proven track record of scientific innovation and successful product development from concept to market.
- Deep understanding of molecular diagnostics, genomics, proteomics, and relevant scientific methodologies.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain top scientific talent.
- Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
Preferred Qualifications
- MD/PhD combined degree.
- Experience in a high-growth startup or a fast-paced, entrepreneurial division of a larger company.
- Previous experience as a Chief Scientific Officer or Head of R&D in a publicly traded company.
- Extensive network within the scientific and medical communities.
- Experience with global regulatory submissions (e.g., FDA, CE-IVD).
