Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Support Worker to join our team, specializing in supporting individuals with learning disabilities. In this vital role, you will provide direct care, guidance, and advocacy to help our clients achieve their personal goals, enhance their daily living skills, and integrate more fully into their communities. You will also mentor junior staff, contribute to care planning, and ensure the highest standards of support are maintained. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct and person-centered support to individuals with learning disabilities, assisting with daily living activities, personal care, and community integration.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individual support plans in collaboration with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Act as a key worker for assigned clients, ensuring continuity of care and advocating for their needs and preferences.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior support workers, sharing best practices and fostering a supportive team environment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of client progress, incidents, and communications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
- Facilitate and encourage participation in social, recreational, educational, and vocational activities.
- Identify and respond to challenging behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques and positive behavior support strategies.
- Administer medication in accordance with training and protocols, documenting accurately.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of clients at all times, including identifying and reporting any safeguarding concerns.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a support worker role, specifically with individuals with learning disabilities.
- Strong understanding of person-centered care principles and positive behavior support strategies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and report writing.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Health & Social Care, Psychology, or a related field (e.g., NVQ Level 3, Diploma).
- Experience in medication administration and management.
- Knowledge of local community resources and advocacy services for individuals with learning disabilities.
- Experience in mentoring or supervising junior staff members.
