Job Description

Are you passionate about history, archaeology, and the preservation of irreplaceable cultural treasures? Bishop Museum is seeking a dedicated and meticulous individual to join our team as a Prehistoric Artifact Handler. This entry-level position requires extreme care and attention to detail, as you will be working directly with delicate and ancient artifacts. Full comprehensive training will be provided to ensure you develop the specialized skills necessary for the safe handling, documentation, and storage of our invaluable collections. No prior experience is required; we are looking for individuals with a steady hand, a keen eye, and a profound respect for cultural heritage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carefully handle and transport prehistoric artifacts between storage, conservation labs, and exhibition areas.
  • Assist with the detailed cataloging and documentation of new and existing collection items, including photography and data entry.
  • Prepare artifacts for display, research, or conservation under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Monitor environmental conditions within storage areas to ensure artifact preservation.
  • Adhere strictly to all museum protocols and safety guidelines for artifact handling and security.
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions to enhance knowledge of conservation techniques and artifact identification.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and collection storage.
