Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and meticulous Prehistoric Artifact Handler to join our collections team. This is an entry-level position offering comprehensive, full training in the delicate handling, documentation, and preservation of prehistoric artifacts. You will play a crucial role in safeguarding archaeological discoveries, ensuring their integrity and accessibility for research and exhibition. Ideal candidates will have a keen eye for detail, a steady hand, and a deep respect for historical objects.
Key Responsibilities
- Carefully handle, move, and re-house prehistoric artifacts according to established museum and conservation protocols.
- Assist with the inventory, cataloging, and digital photography of new and existing collection items.
- Clean and prepare artifacts for storage, research, or exhibition under the guidance of conservators.
- Monitor environmental conditions within storage areas and report any discrepancies.
- Participate in the relocation and reorganization of collection storage areas.
- Maintain accurate records of artifact movements and condition reports.
- Adhere strictly to all safety and security procedures related to artifact handling and storage.
Required Skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
- High level of patience and manual dexterity.
- Ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions meticulously.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and record keeping.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 25 lbs with assistance when required.
