Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Correctional Facility Pharmacy Tech to join our dedicated team in a secure correctional setting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your pharmacy expertise in an environment that demands precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and timely dispensing of medications to inmates, maintaining strict inventory control, and adhering to all regulatory guidelines. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, package, and label medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring accuracy and adherence to prescriptions.
- Maintain precise inventory records, including ordering, receiving, and stocking pharmaceutical supplies and medications.
- Perform routine medication counts and reconcile discrepancies, reporting any issues to the pharmacist.
- Assist with compounding medications as directed by a pharmacist.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures related to pharmacy operations.
- Manage medication returns, expired medications, and waste according to established protocols.
- Support the pharmacist in conducting medication reviews and audits.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and secure work environment within the pharmacy.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with healthcare staff and facility personnel.
Required Skills
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) status from PTCB or NHA
- Active Pharmacy Technician license in the State of Iowa
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in an institutional or hospital setting
- Strong understanding of pharmacy laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines
- Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations and medical terminology
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively and maintain composure in a secure and structured environment
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a correctional or long-term care pharmacy setting
- Knowledge of pharmacy software systems specific to institutional care
- Experience with sterile and non-sterile compounding
- Advanced certification in specific pharmacy areas (e.g., compounding, IV preparation)
