Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Food Chemist with a strong focus on nutritional analysis to join our dedicated team in Land O’ Lakes, FL. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, quality, and nutritional integrity of food products through precise analytical testing and method development. This immediate hire position requires a detail-oriented individual passionate about food science and committed to delivering accurate, reliable results that uphold our rigorous quality standards and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex chemical analyses on food samples to determine nutritional content, including macronutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates), vitamins, minerals, and other specific compounds.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, spectrophotometers, and automated analyzers.
- Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for various food matrices in accordance with industry standards (e.g., AOAC, ISO) and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, USDA).
- Interpret and report analytical data, ensuring accuracy, precision, and adherence to quality control protocols.
- Troubleshoot analytical issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records, documentation, and data management systems.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including R&D, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs, to support product development and compliance initiatives.
- Stay current with scientific advancements, regulatory changes, and emerging analytical techniques in food chemistry and nutritional science.
- Ensure strict adherence to all laboratory safety protocols and good laboratory practices (GLP).
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Food Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a food testing or analytical chemistry laboratory, with a strong focus on nutritional analysis.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, UV-Vis).
- Solid understanding of food chemistry principles, nutritional components, and relevant analytical methodologies.
- Experience with method development and validation.
- Excellent data interpretation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
- Knowledge of specific regulatory frameworks for food labeling and nutritional claims (e.g., FDA regulations).
- Certification in a relevant analytical technique or quality management system.
