Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospice Porter to join our vital support team. In this essential role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of our hospice operations, directly contributing to a comfortable and dignified environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. This position requires someone with a strong work ethic, excellent interpersonal skills, and a heartfelt commitment to our mission of providing exceptional end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities
- Transporting patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and other areas within the hospice.
- Assisting with the movement and setup of equipment, furniture, and supplies as required.
- Ensuring the timely delivery of internal mail, laboratory samples, medications, and other critical items.
- Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in designated areas, including patient transport equipment.
- Responding promptly and professionally to requests from clinical and administrative staff.
- Assisting with the management of waste and laundry, ensuring appropriate disposal and handling.
- Providing a welcoming and reassuring presence to patients and visitors.
- Adhering strictly to health, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to perform manual handling tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly organised.
- Basic understanding of health and safety guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or hospice environment.
- Experience in a similar portering or support role.
- Knowledge of basic first aid.
