Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Material Handler with a heavy industrial focus to join our team in Reno, NV. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement, loading, and unloading of freight within our terminal. This position requires operating various material handling equipment, often dealing with heavy and oversized items, and adherence to strict safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other heavy material handling equipment to move, load, and unload freight.
- Inspect freight for damage and verify accuracy against shipping documents.
- Secure freight properly to prevent damage during transit and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Sort and stage freight for outbound loads according to routing and scheduling instructions.
- Perform routine maintenance checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or damage.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely freight processing.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 6 months experience in a warehouse, distribution center, or heavy industrial environment.
- Proven ability to safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull freight weighing up to 70 lbs frequently, and occasionally move items weighing more with assistance.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and practices in a heavy industrial setting.
- Basic computer literacy for scanning and data entry.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one upon hire.
- Experience with LTL freight operations.
- Prior experience working with hazardous materials.
- Familiarity with inventory management systems.
