Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Cost Estimator to join our dynamic construction team in Whitby, Ontario. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong background in construction estimating, looking to advance their career with a leading industry player. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for a variety of construction projects, from conceptual design through to final bid submission. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for various construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Evaluate subcontractor bids for completeness and accuracy, negotiate competitive prices, and recommend preferred subcontractors.
  • Identify and assess project risks and opportunities, providing recommendations for mitigation and optimization.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, material costs, and construction methods.
  • Develop and maintain a network of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Utilize estimating software and tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Present estimates and participate in proposal review meetings with senior management and clients.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Cost Estimator in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and methods.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Accubid, B2W Estimate) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Experience with design-build and P3 (Public-Private Partnership) project delivery models.
  • Familiarity with local building codes and regulations in Ontario, Canada.
