Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Radio Sound Engineer to join our dynamic team, specializing in live broadcasting. This full-time position is critical to ensuring the seamless technical delivery of our on-air programming, from talk shows and news segments to live music and events. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of broadcast audio systems, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a commitment to maintaining superior sound quality under pressure. This role involves working varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and comes with a competitive shift differential.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain broadcast consoles, audio mixers, microphones, and other audio equipment during live on-air programming.
- Monitor and adjust audio levels to ensure optimal sound quality and clarity for all broadcasts.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently to prevent or minimize downtime during live shows.
- Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs on studio equipment.
- Assist producers and hosts with microphone placement, sound checks, and audio setup.
- Set up and tear down audio equipment for remote broadcasts and special events as needed.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure all audio elements, including music, sound effects, and commercials, are integrated smoothly.
- Maintain accurate logs of equipment usage, maintenance activities, and technical issues.
- Stay informed about new audio technologies and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with digital and analog audio consoles and mixing boards.
- Strong understanding of broadcast audio signal flow and routing.
- Experience with live sound reinforcement and recording.
- Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical problems under pressure.
- Familiarity with various audio editing software and hardware.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Technology, Audio Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience as a sound engineer or broadcast technician in a radio or TV station.
- Knowledge of FCC regulations pertaining to audio broadcast.
- Certifications in audio engineering or broadcast technology.
- Experience with automation systems used in broadcasting.
