Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Percussion Specialist to join our high school marching band program. This part-time position involves instructing and coaching the percussion section, contributing to their musical development and performance readiness for various school events and competitions. The ideal candidate will have strong pedagogical skills, a deep understanding of marching percussion techniques, and the ability to inspire high school students.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive percussion instruction plans for the marching band.
- Teach various percussion instruments including snare drum, tenor drums, bass drum, cymbals, and front ensemble instruments.
- Coach students on proper technique, rhythm, timing, and musicality.
- Prepare the percussion section for rehearsals, performances, and competitions.
- Collaborate with the band director and other music staff to integrate percussion into the overall band sound and visual presentation.
- Assist with instrument maintenance and inventory.
- Foster a positive, disciplined, and encouraging learning environment.
- Attend rehearsals, performances, and staff meetings as required.
Required Skills
- Expertise in marching percussion techniques and repertoire.
- Proficiency on various percussion instruments.
- Demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring high school students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret musical scores.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Performance, or a related field.
- Previous experience as a percussion instructor or section leader for a high school or collegiate marching band.
- Experience with competitive marching band circuits (e.g., WGI, DCI, local circuits).
- CPR and First Aid certification.
