Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Agrochemical Chemist with a focus on Fertilizer & Crop Science to join our innovative research and development team in Schaumburg, IL. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in the discovery, development, and optimization of novel fertilizers and crop protection solutions. Your work will directly contribute to advancing sustainable agriculture and enhancing crop productivity. You will leverage your expertise in chemistry to design experiments, synthesize new compounds, analyze results, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to bring cutting-edge solutions from concept to field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute laboratory experiments for the synthesis and formulation of novel agrochemical compounds, with a particular emphasis on fertilizers and crop enhancement agents.
  • Conduct in-depth chemical analysis using various analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS, NMR, IR) to characterize new molecules and formulations.
  • Evaluate the physiochemical properties and stability of active ingredients and formulated products under various environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with biologists, agronomists, and other scientists to understand agricultural challenges and translate research findings into practical solutions.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, data, and results, preparing detailed reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure all laboratory activities comply with safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in agrochemistry, fertilizer technology, and crop science.
  • Contribute to patent applications and scientific publications as appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial or academic research setting, specifically in agrochemicals, fertilizers, crop science, or related specialty chemicals.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of organic synthesis and reaction mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, NMR, and IR spectroscopy.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, conduct, and interpret complex experiments independently.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to scientific rigor.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with high-throughput screening or automated synthesis platforms.
  • Knowledge of formulation science and process chemistry.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for agrochemical products.
  • Experience with intellectual property development (patent writing/filing).
  • Understanding of plant physiology and nutrient uptake mechanisms.
