Job Description

As a Baggage Inspector for a federal agency, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding national security by conducting thorough inspections of passenger baggage. You will operate advanced screening equipment to detect prohibited items and potential threats, ensuring compliance with federal security regulations. This demanding yet rewarding position requires a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced airport environment. You will be part of a critical team responsible for protecting the public and maintaining the integrity of the transportation system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate advanced security equipment such as X-ray machines, CT scanners, and explosive trace detectors to screen checked and carry-on baggage.
  • Conduct physical bag searches when anomalies are detected, following strict protocols and procedures.
  • Identify and resolve security-related issues, including the detection of prohibited items, hazardous materials, and potential threats.
  • Communicate effectively with passengers, airline personnel, and other federal agencies regarding security procedures and findings.
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness and respond to security incidents in accordance with established emergency procedures.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records of inspections and incidents.
  • Adhere to all federal regulations, policies, and procedures related to transportation security.
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs to maintain proficiency in security screening techniques and technologies.

Required Skills

  • Ability to complete and pass federal security training and certification.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and lift moderate weights for extended periods.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, dynamic environment.
  • Availability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
  • Experience operating security screening equipment.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish, Mandarin, or Korean).
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
