Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and physically capable individuals to join our Sod Laying & Rolling Crew. This active, on-site role is crucial for establishing and maintaining high-quality lawns and green spaces across our projects in Chester and the surrounding areas. As a key member of our landscaping team, you will be responsible for preparing ground, precisely laying sod, and ensuring optimal installation through rolling. This position requires strong attention to detail, a commitment to quality workmanship, and the ability to work effectively in an outdoor environment, regardless of weather conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare ground for sod installation, including clearing debris, leveling, and soil amendment.
- Load, unload, and transport sod rolls to designated work areas.
- Lay sod precisely, ensuring proper alignment, tight seams, and adequate coverage.
- Operate sod rollers to ensure proper contact between sod and subgrade, promoting root establishment.
- Perform basic landscaping duties as required, such as mulching, planting, and site clean-up.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks consistently, including lifting heavy sod rolls (up to 50 lbs), bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic understanding of landscaping principles or willingness to learn.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in landscaping, construction, or a similar outdoor physical role.
- Valid UK driving license.
- Experience operating small landscaping machinery (e.g., rototillers, sod cutters) is a plus.
- First Aid certification.
