Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Chemist to lead our analytical chemistry department in New Port Richey, Florida. This pivotal role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of advanced chemical analysis, method development, and quality assurance in a manufacturing or research environment. The Chief Chemist will be responsible for overseeing all laboratory operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving innovation in analytical techniques, and providing expert technical guidance to a dedicated team of chemists and technicians. You will play a critical role in product development, quality control, and problem-solving, contributing directly to the success of our cutting-edge scientific endeavors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the analytical chemistry laboratory, including supervision of personnel, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
- Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods for raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
- Ensure all laboratory activities comply with relevant regulatory standards (e.g., GLP, ISO, FDA) and internal quality systems.
- Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior chemists and laboratory staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Oversee the calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sophisticated analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, FTIR, NMR).
- Design and execute complex experimental plans to support R&D projects, process optimization, and failure analysis.
- Interpret complex analytical data, generate comprehensive reports, and present findings to cross-functional teams and senior management.
- Manage laboratory budget, procure necessary equipment and supplies, and ensure cost-effective operations.
- Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and R&D departments to address chemical-related challenges and support product lifecycle management.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in an analytical laboratory setting, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Extensive expertise in a wide range of analytical techniques and instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, UV-Vis, FTIR, NMR, titrations).
- Proven track record of successful analytical method development, validation, and transfer.
- Strong understanding of GLP, ISO, and other relevant regulatory guidelines.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and data interpretation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or chemical manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and other lab automation software.
- Publications in peer-reviewed journals or presentations at scientific conferences.
- PMP certification or experience in project management.
