Mortenson is seeking a motivated and eager Tiler Assistant to join our growing team in Rapid City, South Dakota. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with no prior experience who are keen to learn a valuable, high-demand skill from experienced professionals. As a Tiler Assistant, you will work directly alongside our expert tilers, assisting with various tasks involved in the installation of tiles for floors, walls, and other surfaces. You’ll gain hands-on experience in surface preparation, material mixing, tile cutting, and proper installation techniques. Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead tilers with all aspects of tile installation, including setting, grouting, and sealing.
- Prepare surfaces for tiling by cleaning, leveling, and applying necessary primers or waterproofing membranes.
- Measure, cut, and grind tiles to fit specific areas, under direct supervision.
- Mix and apply mortar, grout, and other setting materials according to specifications.
- Transport materials and tools to and from the work area.
- Maintain a clean and organized job site, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.
- Follow all safety protocols and company guidelines diligently.
- Learn and master new tiling techniques and practices from skilled professionals.
Required Skills
- Strong work ethic and a desire to learn a skilled trade.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Basic understanding of measurements and angles is a plus, but not strictly required for this entry-level role.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a labor-intensive role or construction environment is an asset but not mandatory.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
