Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Food Chemist with a strong focus on nutritional analysis to join our dedicated team in Arlington, VA. This is an immediate hire position for a professional eager to contribute to food safety and quality. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of analytical tests on food products, with a particular emphasis on determining nutritional content, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting client needs through accurate and timely data. You will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, utilizing advanced instrumentation and adhering to strict quality control protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct nutritional analysis on various food and beverage samples using established methods (e.g., proximate analysis, vitamin assays, mineral content).
  • Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, spectrophotometers, and automated analyzers.
  • Interpret complex analytical data, prepare comprehensive reports, and ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory safety protocols, quality control procedures (ISO 17025), and good laboratory practices (GLP).
  • Troubleshoot analytical methods and instrumentation issues, proposing and implementing effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality assurance, research and development, and client services.
  • Stay updated on relevant food regulations, industry standards, and emerging analytical techniques.
  • Contribute to method development and validation efforts as needed.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of practical experience in a food testing or analytical chemistry laboratory, specifically with nutritional analysis.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instruments (e.g., HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, spectrophotometry).
  • Strong understanding of food chemistry principles and nutritional labeling regulations (e.g., FDA, USDA).
  • Excellent data analysis, report writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) software.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 accreditation standards and quality management systems.
  • Experience in method development and validation.
  • Certifications in food safety or analytical chemistry.
