Job Description
Are you an energetic individual who thrives in an active, outdoor environment? Canada Post is seeking dedicated and reliable Government Mail Carriers (Postmen) to join our team in Vernon, British Columbia. This is a vital role responsible for the daily collection and delivery of mail and parcels, ensuring that our customers receive their important communications and goods promptly and safely. You’ll be the face of Canada Post, interacting with the community and making a tangible difference in people’s lives every day. This position requires physical fitness, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently deliver and collect mail, parcels, and other postal items on foot and/or by vehicle.
- Sort mail and parcels for delivery, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established routes.
- Operate a postal vehicle responsibly, adhering to all traffic laws and company safety policies.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing inquiries and concerns with professionalism.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries and collections, including special deliveries and registered mail.
- Handle cash and process payments for postal services as required.
- Navigate routes using maps or GPS, adapting to changing conditions and new addresses.
- Adhere to all Canada Post policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Valid Class 5 (or equivalent) driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy mail bags and parcels (up to 50 lbs / 22.7 kg).
- Physical stamina to walk long distances and work outdoors in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Proven reliability and punctuality.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in delivery, postal services, or a similar outdoor role.
- Familiarity with the Vernon and surrounding British Columbia area.
- Basic computer proficiency for handheld devices and internal systems.
