Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic High School Jazz Band Instructor to lead our evening rehearsals. This part-time position offers top rates for an individual passionate about nurturing young musical talent and contributing to a thriving arts program. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing high school students in jazz performance, improvisation, and theory, preparing them for concerts, competitions, and community events. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct engaging and effective evening rehearsals for the high school jazz band.
- Teach fundamental jazz techniques, improvisation, music theory, and history.
- Select and arrange appropriate repertoire that challenges and inspires students.
- Prepare students for performances, festivals, and competitions.
- Foster a positive and collaborative learning environment.
- Manage band equipment and resources responsibly.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration.
- Attend school music department meetings as required.
Required Skills
- Exceptional proficiency in a jazz instrument (e.g., saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums).
- Proven experience in directing or leading musical ensembles, preferably jazz bands.
- Strong understanding of jazz harmony, improvisation, and stylistic conventions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire high school students.
- Organizational skills for managing rehearsals, repertoire, and performances.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Jazz Studies, or a related field.
- Prior teaching experience at the high school level.
- Experience with music arranging or composition.
- Knowledge of music technology and recording techniques.
