Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic High School Jazz Band Instructor to lead our evening rehearsals. This part-time position offers top rates for an individual passionate about nurturing young musical talent and contributing to a thriving arts program. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing high school students in jazz performance, improvisation, and theory, preparing them for concerts, competitions, and community events. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct engaging and effective evening rehearsals for the high school jazz band.
  • Teach fundamental jazz techniques, improvisation, music theory, and history.
  • Select and arrange appropriate repertoire that challenges and inspires students.
  • Prepare students for performances, festivals, and competitions.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Manage band equipment and resources responsibly.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school administration.
  • Attend school music department meetings as required.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional proficiency in a jazz instrument (e.g., saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums).
  • Proven experience in directing or leading musical ensembles, preferably jazz bands.
  • Strong understanding of jazz harmony, improvisation, and stylistic conventions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire high school students.
  • Organizational skills for managing rehearsals, repertoire, and performances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Jazz Studies, or a related field.
  • Prior teaching experience at the high school level.
  • Experience with music arranging or composition.
  • Knowledge of music technology and recording techniques.
