Job Description
AECOM is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Field Sample Collector with a strong focus on stratigraphy to join our dynamic team. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to contribute to critical environmental and geological projects from anywhere within the USA. You will be instrumental in conducting essential fieldwork, primarily focused on collecting geological samples with a keen eye for stratigraphic detail. Your work will directly support our environmental assessment, remediation, and resource management projects. While the role is remote, frequent travel to project sites across various states will be required for sample collection.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute field sampling protocols for soil, sediment, rock, and water with precision and adherence to established guidelines.
- Document detailed stratigraphic logs, including descriptions of lithology, sedimentary structures, and contact relationships.
- Operate and maintain field equipment for sample collection and in-situ measurements.
- Ensure proper chain-of-custody for all collected samples and coordinate laboratory submissions.
- Maintain accurate and organized field notes, photographs, and data logs.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and company policies.
- Travel to various project sites, often in remote or challenging terrains, for extended periods.
- Collaborate effectively with project managers, geologists, and environmental scientists.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in geological or environmental field sampling.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and log stratigraphic units accurately.
- Strong understanding of geological principles and sedimentary processes.
- Proficiency with field equipment for sample collection (e.g., augers, core samplers).
- Excellent observational and data recording skills.
- Ability to work independently in remote field settings and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively.
- Physical fitness to perform duties in various outdoor conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Science, or a related field.
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
- Experience with GPS/GIS for field mapping and data collection.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA).
- Previous experience working with a major environmental consulting firm.
