Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Paleontology Project Lead to oversee significant research, excavation, and exhibition projects within our renowned Paleontology Department. This pivotal role involves leading multidisciplinary teams, managing project lifecycles from conception to completion, and ensuring the scientific integrity and educational impact of our paleontological endeavors. The successful candidate will have a strong background in vertebrate paleontology, exceptional project management skills, and a passion for public engagement. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of assigned paleontological research, excavation, preparation, and exhibition projects.
- Develop detailed project plans, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation strategies.
- Supervise and mentor project teams, including paleontologists, preparators, volunteers, and students.
- Conduct advanced paleontological research, including field work, lab analysis, and publication of findings.
- Collaborate with other museum departments (e.g., exhibits, education, collections) to integrate paleontological discoveries into public programming.
- Secure external funding through grant writing and donor relations.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, ethical guidelines, and institutional policies.
- Present research findings at scientific conferences and to public audiences.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Paleontology, Geology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in paleontological research or project management.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities.
- Expertise in field excavation techniques, fossil preparation, and curation.
- Strong record of scientific publication and grant acquisition.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale museum exhibition development.
- Proficiency in geological mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS).
