Job Description

Are you passionate about global issues, international relations, and making a tangible difference in the lives of children worldwide? Compassion International is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Diplomacy & Foreign Affairs Intern to join our team in Colorado Springs. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the operational aspects of international non-governmental organizations, particularly concerning government relations, global policy analysis, and cross-cultural communication. You will support our efforts to engage with governments, international bodies, and partner organizations to ensure the effective delivery of our programs and advocacy for children in poverty.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in researching and analyzing international policies, regulations, and political developments relevant to Compassion International's operations in various countries.
  • Support the preparation of briefs, reports, and presentations on foreign affairs topics for internal stakeholders.
  • Help monitor global events and geopolitical trends that may impact the organization's mission and programs.
  • Contribute to the drafting of communications and outreach materials for external partners, government agencies, and diplomatic missions.
  • Participate in meetings with internal teams and external experts, taking notes and contributing to discussions.
  • Provide administrative support for projects related to international relations and policy advocacy.
  • Learn about compliance frameworks and ethical considerations in international development and NGO operations.
  • Engage in cross-cultural competency training and apply learnings in daily tasks.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in International Relations, Political Science, Global Studies, Diplomacy, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrated interest in international development, humanitarian aid, or foreign affairs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity and alignment with Compassion International's mission and values.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (academic or professional) in research, policy analysis, or international relations.
  • Familiarity with global development challenges and the NGO sector.
  • Proficiency in a second language (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, French, Swahili, Tagalog) relevant to Compassion's operational countries.
  • Experience with data analysis or database management.
