Job Description
Are you a compassionate and experienced Healthcare Assistant looking for an exciting opportunity to advance your career in a dynamic healthcare environment? Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Senior Healthcare Assistant to join our team in Vancouver. This is a unique opportunity for qualified international candidates, as visa sponsorship is available for the right individual. As a Senior Healthcare Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing high-quality, patient-centred care, supporting registered nurses and other healthcare professionals, and contributing to a positive and healing environment. You will work within a collaborative team, assisting patients with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring their comfort and well-being. This role requires excellent communication skills, empathy, and a strong commitment to patient safety and dignity. We are looking for someone who is proactive, reliable, and passionate about making a real difference in healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or other healthcare professional, including assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, feeding, and other daily living activities.
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and other patient observations, reporting any changes or concerns promptly to the nursing staff.
- Assist with patient transfers, ambulation, and positioning, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Document care provided accurately and timely in patient records.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
- Support the rehabilitation process by assisting patients with exercises and mobility aids as directed.
- Contribute to care planning by providing observations and feedback to the nursing team.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and infection control policies.
- Mentor and support junior Healthcare Assistants, fostering a collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Completion of a recognized Healthcare Assistant program.
- Minimum of 3 years of recent experience as a Healthcare Assistant in a hospital or long-term care setting.
- Current registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electronic health records systems.
- Additional certifications in specialized care areas (e.g., palliative care, dementia care).
- Proficiency in a second language relevant to the local population.
