Job Description
We are seeking experienced and reliable Independent Drayage Drivers to partner with XPO Logistics for port and rail container movements in and around the Boston metropolitan area. As an Independent Drayage Driver, you will play a critical role in our supply chain, ensuring the timely and efficient transport of goods between the port, rail yards, and customer distribution centers. This is an excellent opportunity for owner-operators to leverage their equipment and expertise with a consistent volume of work from a top-tier logistics provider.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport containers between ports, rail ramps, and customer facilities.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local transportation regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS).
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of truck and chassis, reporting any defects.
- Manage paperwork accurately, including bills of lading, manifests, and equipment interchange receipts.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain high standards of safety, professionalism, and customer service.
- Utilize electronic logging devices (ELDs) and other necessary technology as required.
- Manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules and pickup appointments.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A CDL with Hazmat endorsement (preferred, but not required)
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable commercial driving experience (preferably drayage)
- Clean MVR and PSP record
- Current DOT medical card
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screen
- Proficiency with ELD systems and smartphone applications
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
- TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)
- Port and rail experience in the Boston area
- Owner-operator with own truck (day cab or sleeper) capable of pulling 20ft, 40ft, and 45ft containers
- Experience with various chassis types and intermodal operations
