Job Description
Are you a compassionate and reliable individual looking to start a rewarding career in healthcare? ChristianaCare is seeking enthusiastic Patient Transporters to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This is an entry-level position perfect for those with no prior experience in healthcare, offering immediate hire opportunities. As a Patient Transporter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the comfort and safety of our patients by moving them between various departments within our medical facilities. We are looking for individuals who are committed to providing excellent patient care, possess strong communication skills, and are ready to contribute to a collaborative healthcare environment. Comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport patients via wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds to and from various hospital departments, including patient rooms, diagnostic areas, and treatment centers.
- Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, families, and staff, providing comfort and reassurance during transport.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of transport equipment, reporting any malfunctions or issues promptly.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and patient privacy (HIPAA) regulations.
- Assist with patient transfers to and from transport equipment, ensuring proper body mechanics and patient safety.
- Respond to transport requests in a timely manner, prioritizing urgent needs.
- Collaborate with nursing and ancillary staff to ensure smooth patient flow.
Required Skills
- Ability to push, pull, and lift patients and equipment safely.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong empathy and a compassionate attitude towards patients.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of patient privacy and confidentiality.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent is preferred, but not strictly required for highly motivated candidates.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service role.
- CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Basic computer literacy.
