Job Description
Join National Museums Liverpool as a Historical Document Tagger for our vital Digital Archive Project. In this role, you will be instrumental in categorizing, tagging, and organizing historical documents, photographs, and other archival materials to enhance their discoverability and accessibility within our digital database. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about history, digital preservation, and meticulous data management. You will work with a dedicated team, contributing directly to the long-term preservation and public access of significant historical assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately review and assess historical documents, photographs, and other archival materials.
- Apply appropriate metadata, tags, and keywords according to established cataloging standards and guidelines.
- Ensure consistency and accuracy in data entry and document classification.
- Collaborate with archivists and project managers to clarify tagging conventions and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in quality control checks of digitized materials and associated metadata.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and care when handling sensitive or fragile historical items.
- Report any technical issues or inconsistencies encountered during the tagging process.
Required Skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently.
- Enthusiasm for history, archives, or cultural heritage.
Preferred Qualifications
- A-levels or equivalent in History, English, or a related humanities field.
- Previous experience with data entry, content management systems, or digital archiving projects (even voluntary).
- Familiarity with historical research methods or archival practices.
- Basic understanding of metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core).
